Upstate New York is a popular destination for elopements due to its stunning natural landscapes, charming towns, and romantic settings. Ever since I’ve discovered it’s peaceful nature and simplistic lifestyle, I’ve been traveling north into this hidden gem state. The Atlantic Northeast has such a beautiful peace about it that I cherish so deeply.
After photographing mulitple elopements in upstate New York, I’ve come to know and love these destinations for elopements :
Robert H. Treman State Park is an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past twelve waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. Campers can choose from tent or RV sites or cabins. Enjoy nine miles of hiking trails, or swim in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall.
The Finger Lakes Region: Known for its stunning lakes, rolling hills, and vineyards – the Finger Lakes region provides a romantic backdrop for an intimate elopement. It’s perfect for a private getaway for you and your partner as well as offers tons of airbnbs to rent out for smaller parties.
Stroll through nineteen waterfalls in Watkins Glen State Park. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade, an incredible experience! Imagine renting a private boat through Spindrift Sailing Charters for the afternoon to sail across Seneca Lake or Cayuga Lake.
Located in Ulster County, NY Minnewaska State Park Preserve is situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain ridge, which rises more than two thousand feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. The park features numerous waterfalls, three crystalline sky lakes, dense hardwood forests, incising sheer cliffs and ledges opening to beautiful views. There’s so many enjoyable trails such as Awosting Falls Trail, the Gertrude’s Nose Trail, and Sam’s Point. The trails are fairly easy with views that will excite any outdoor enthusiast. I adore the large cliffs, clear lakes, and vibrant greenery! And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City.
The Hudson Valley is renowned for its picturesque landscapes, charming towns, and historic sites. Places like Mohonk Mountain House, Bear Mountain State Park, or a hidden gem – Gatherwild Ranch. Gatherwild Ranch, a luxurious farmstead experience, and offer a place to reconnect with nature. Hang around with other guests at the main fire pit and communal picnic tables, try your hand at a ceramics class in the large barn studio, or pop by the organic garden to order from a list of locally sourced vegetables, meat, and provisions while the chickens, ducks, and goats roam freely around you.
Other amazing spots to consider for picturesque elopement experiences are:
